SSLs
School Staff Liaisons

TL'DR description of SSLs:

What are the responsibilities of an SSL?

SSLs commit to attending several SSL Symposiums a year.  Symposiums are hosted by the STF, and are designed to train SSLs and prepare them to better support their staff.

SSLs receive mail monthly from the STF, and are asked to ensure that all staff members have an opportunity to connect with the resources that have been delivered.

SSLs carry out duties as assigned by the STF.  These duties might include getting out the vote during sanctions or contract votes, encourage members to support initiatives such as Tell Them Tuesday, collecting staff emails, reporting bargaining developments to staff, and so on.

They are also tasked with connecting teachers who have questions or who need support with the STF.

How many SSLs does a school get and how are they selected?

Each school should select 1 SSL to represent their staff.  This name is collected at the beginning of the year, when either the Principal or Vice-Principal of the school pass around the email confirmation sheet for the STF.  At this time, the person designated as the SSL should indicate that they have accepted the role on that form.

If more than one teacher is interested in the role, the staff can hold an election.
