SSRs
School Staff Representatives

TL;DR description of SSRs:

What are the responsibilities of an SSR?

SSRs commit to attending Representative Assembly meetings and Systems Meetings (Public or Catholic) approximately once a month during the school year.  Their role at Assembly meetings is to ask questions, raise concerns, put forward motions, and oversee the governance of the STA.

After each Assembly and Systems meeting, they are responsible for reporting back to staff on what they learned at Assembly meetings.

They are also tasked with connecting teachers who have questions or who need support with the STA.

Finally, they support the STA in getting out the vote for LINC ratification and elections.

According to our constitution, if a Staff Representative is absent without a substitute attending in his/her place at the Representative Assembly Meeting, the responsibility vested in him/her may be considered withdrawn. The Executive may require their school to hold a by-election to fill the vacancy.

How are substitute teachers represented?

According to our constitution, substitute teachers shall elect up to 4 representatives to the STA Assembly.

How many SSRs does a school get and how are they selected?

According to our constitution, schools are allotted 1 SSR per 15 STF members.  If a school has, for example, 13 teachers, they will be allotted 1 SSR.  If a school has 16 teachers, they will be allotted 2 SSRs.

According to our constitution, each school shall elect 1 Representative for every 15 teaching staff.  These names must be forwarded to the STA office at least two weeks prior to the September Representative Assembly Meeting.  If a teacher wants to fill an empty spot later in the year, they can email president@saskatoonteachers.ca to let the STA know.

If you do not know if your school has an SSR, or if you do not know if all of the spots are full, please contact president@saskatoonteachers.ca and we will help you confirm if there are available positions.
