About Us
The Saskatoon Teachers' Association (STA) is a Local Association of the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation (STF).
What is a Local Association of the STF?
There are 27 local associations, including the STA. The majority of local associations (22) are based on geographic regions that parallel Saskatchewan’s school divisions. L’Association locale des enseignantes et enseignants fransaskois (ALEF) and the Saskatchewan Distance Learning Corporation have schools or regional campuses in communities across Saskatchewan.
Local associations provide teachers with a collective voice at the local level and, through their local executives and councillors, a central connection with the provincial organization. To a large extent, it is through their local associations that teachers present resolutions to Council and influence the direction the Federation takes.
Objectives of the STA
According to the STA constitution, and as defined by STF Bylaw 4 (Local Associations), the objective of the STA shall be to:
3.2.1. Further the objectives of the STF provincially and locally;
3.2.2. Support the professional growth of members;
3.2.3. Bargain collectively on behalf of members for a local collective bargaining agreement subject to the local bargaining provisions of The Education Act, 1995;
3.2.4. Ensure effective communications between members and the STF.
Membership
The STA is composed of members of the STF who are employed by Saskatoon Public School Division No. 13 (“SPSD”) or Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools (“GSCS”) – St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Separate School Division No. 20. All substitute teachers employed by SPSD or GSCS shall be members of the local association as per STF bylaw.
